Overview
Vycor® Select™ roofing underlayment is a lightweight and easy-to-handle material, measuring 25 mils (0.64 mm) in thickness. Its advanced rubberized asphalt formulation meets industry standards for fastener sealability, despite being thinner and lighter than many comparable products. The release liner backing protects the adhesive quality, which can be easily applied to the roof deck after removal. The membrane comes in a 195 ft2 (18.1 m2) roll, 36 inches (914 mm) wide, with a RIPCORD® feature for convenient application in detail areas.
Vycor Select offers numerous benefits, including its lightweight nature which eases transport and handling. It also provides self-sealing properties meeting key building code standards. The slip-resistant surface ensures traction without compromising water integrity, even in hot weather conditions. The membrane's unique RIPCORD® feature makes application more efficient, particularly in detailed sections like valleys and dormers. Additionally, it...See More allows for easier reroofing compared to granular surfaced membranes.
Vycor Select is designed to resist water penetration due to wind-driven rain and ice dams, meeting code-based performance standards. It effectively prevents wind-driven rain from entering the structure, ensuring protection during storms. For ice dam protection, it should be adhered along the edge of the roof deck along the eaves, considering variables like climate and roof characteristics. The underlayment can also be used to prevent roof leaks in vulnerable areas like valleys, rake edges, chimneys, and skylights.
During installation, ensure the structural deck is clean, dry, and continuous. Apply Vycor Select in fair weather conditions, with appropriate temperatures for both the air, roof deck, and membrane. Proper priming of certain surfaces may be necessary for optimal adhesion. The membrane should be installed with consistent laps that shed water, working from the low point to the high point of the roof. It's important to extend the membrane above the expected levels of water backup from ice dams and snow accumulation for proper protection. Several precautions and limitations should be observed, including the use of fall protection, caution with slippery release liners, and avoiding prolonged exposure to sunlight.
Vycor Select should not be folded over the roof edge without appropriate flashing material, and fasteners should not be installed over unsupported areas of the structural deck. Additionally, Vycor Select has specific product compatibility guidelines and meets industry standards for fire classification. You can depend on the comprehensive support and expertise from the makers of Vycor® Ice & Water Shield® to ensure a smooth and successful application process.
