Roof Shakes

What is a roof shake?

A shake is typically described as a wooden shingle that is made from split logs. When these are used for covering the top of a house, the result is a shake roof. Natural wood roof shakes can be very expensive, are naturally flamable, and require a lot of upkeep over their lifetime in order to provide long-lasting protection.

Smart alternatives to natural wood roof shakes

CertainTeed manufactures premium roofing products, such as Presidential Shake® and Landmark Premium®  asphalt shingles replicate the shade, texture and rustic design of natural wood roof shakes while offering the enhanced performance characteristics of top-quality asphalt and metal roofing materials.

Asphalt and metal roofing offer many benefits

Unlike wood, these roofing products will not rot or decay, and they offer excellent wind and fire resistance. Additionally, asphalt shingles typically cost a fraction of natural wood roof shakes, whereas metal roofing is very lightweight and useable on projects where weight restrictions would otherwise limit the heavier asphalt of real wood shake options.

Asphalt shingles and metal roofing designed to look like roof shakes typically have improved warranty protections, and offer a wide selection of color options that expand aesthetics and design functionality.
